ODDitease Double Feature: Seasonal Delusions & The Exorcism of Ah! Baloney

Saturday, September 28, 2024

Show: 8:00 pm

Doors: 7:00 pm

Venue: Echo Theater: 1515 SE 37th Ave, Portland, OR 97214

Get ready for a night of surreal comedy and theatrical absurdity as we present the final installment of Odditease! Join us on September 28 at the Echo Theater for a unique double feature that promises to be a memorable farewell to the whimsical world of the bizarre.

First, witness the transformation of One-Half Nelson into their outrageous character, Ah! Baloney, in "The Exorcism of Ah-Baloney." This captivating performance dives deep into the chaotic mind of the artist, blending humor and introspection in a maximalist style that will leave you in stitches.

Following that, prepare for a journey through the tempestuous seasons of Oregon with Baby Le'Strange's "Seasonal Delusions." In this poignant tale, a woman confronts her inner demons amidst the shifting landscapes of her surroundings, exploring themes of resilience and self-discovery.

Don’t miss this chance to experience two powerful one-woman shows for the price of one! It's a farewell to the absurd that you won't want to miss. Join us for an unforgettable night filled with laughter, depth, and a touch of the surreal. Brought to you by a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council. See you at the Echo Theater!

They have a passion for creating fun, collaborative, and grounded spontaneous content. DAME is Kari Smit, Rebecca Rothery, Laurie Martin, Nawwal Moustafa, Leann Ruth Johnson, Starr Ahrens, Angela Michtom, Stephanie Wichman, and Georgia Gunesch.

BROKE GRAVY A Broke Gravy improv show is candid conversations, unforgettable characters, and the joy of the unknown. But mostly it’s funny AF. Since 2016, Chris, Leon, and Eric have used improv comedy to engage deeply with their audiences. They exchange their stories with yours—creating something new and surprising on the spot. Come connect with a comedy show you’ve never seen before (and will never see again). A Portland favorite, Broke Gravy is Chris Williams, Leon Anderson, and Eric Simons.

SAT SEPT 14

FUCKOS Get a load of these Fuckos!  Fuckos bring you long form improv for li'l stinkers. These sticky fingered mischief makers love to play with goofy characters, grounded emotions, and absurd physicality. Amy Conway, Craig McCarthy, Lauren Sinner, and Michael Zimmer are Fuckos. Fucko around and find out!

BROAD SELECTION The ladies of Broad Selection share true personal stories, inspiring improvised tales that are fun, witty, and often quite moving. They were featured artists at the 2017 and 2019 Stumptown Improv Festivals. A powerhouse of improv veterans, Broad Selection is Kerry Leek, Adrienne Flagg, Whitney Johnson, Betse Green, Lisa Brousseau, Janet Scanlon, Mariah Muñoz, and Katie Nguyen.

HIGH ROLLERS Odds are you'll laugh.  High stakes improvisation from four improv vets. High Rollers are Daryl Olson, Bill Cernansky, Kyle Stebbins, and Beau Brousseau.

SUN SEPT 15

THE HUMANS The Humans is an all-BIPOC long form improv team originally formed at Kickstand Comedy in 2023. The Humans have performed the Harold format every other Sunday in 2024. You can catch them on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:30 headlining the Velodrome starting in August. The Humans are Natasha Baptiste, Afrita Davis, Morgan Harrison, Paris Hyun, Krystal Marie, Julian Rodriguez, and Avery Scott II.

HOT GOSS Rebecca Feldman, Jason Hays, and Jessica Zodrow have been performing together for over 6 years in one way or another. So, in 2021 they formed Hot Goss. Their tendency to always spill the tea and laugh 'til it hurts helped them discover what joy they get out of performing in a trio together. Everything just flowed effortlessly from there. With their love of pop culture, they focus on recreating real movies they've never seen before. They take what they know (or don't) about a movie suggested by the audience, fold in classic story tropes, joyous relationships, and filmmaking devices to bring their director's cut to life.

CLIFFBANGER Musical Improv that Hits!  Get ready to unleash the musical mayhem with Cliffbanger, a brand new musical improv comedy show like you've never seen. With just one audience suggestion, this creative cast of improvisers will quickly weave comedic scenes and totally improvised songs - taking you on a ride from beginning to end.
You'll groove, you’ll laugh, you’ll leave hungry for more. Direction by musical improv veteran, Rachel Rosenthal (North Coast, Love Shakespeare). Accompaniment from the brilliant Mont Chris Hubbard. And a dynamic cast of some of Portland’s funniest improvisers?! This is not a show to miss. They won’t leave you hanging, but they will leave you wanting more…  Featuring: Alex Beeken, Rachel Rosenthal, Sam De Roest, Emily Larkin, Jack Martin, and Mont Chris Hubbard on keys.

Venue: Echo Theater: 1515 SE 37th Ave, Portland, OR 97214

Echo Theater Presents: Send in the Clowns (2013) A Benefit for Clowns Without Borders

Join us for a special screening of Sam Lee's 2013 documentary on the power of laughter and joy in the face of adversity.

Clowns Without Borders USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that exists for a simple reason: to bring the transformative power of joy to areas of conflict, displacement, and emergency. We envision a world where kids get to experience contagious laughter and unbridled joy in the very moments they need it most.

Send in the Clowns follows performers from the organization Clowns Without Borders. Their mission is to travel to areas of crisis and relieve stress and suffering through laughter. The clowns are volunteers, armed with a unique set of skills and an earnest desire to change the world. But is their work any different from all of the other agenda-driven aid organizations?

The evening will include a Q+A session with Josie Mae (CWB Performer Ecuador, Turkey, El Salvador) and others.

This event is a pre-party for the 25th Annual Portland Clowns Without Borders Benefit Show; March 30, 2024 at the Alberta Rose Theater. We hope to see you there, too!

Suggested donation $10; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

All Proceeds benefit Clowns Without Borders Portland.

BRIDGE CITY IMPROV presents two stalwart indie groups, featuring talent that helped shape the Portland improv scene we know and love today.

First up, HIGH ROLLERS (Beau Brousseau, Kyle Stebbins, Bill Cernanksy, Daryl Olson). These distinguished gents collectively cover the comedy gamut with humor bold as cabernet, dry as champagne, and smart as a craft cocktail.

Then make way for BROAD SELECTION (Katie Nguyen, Mariah Muñoz, Betse Green, Lisa Brousseau, Janet Scanlon, Whitney Johnson, Adrienne Flagg, Kerry Leek), a powerhouse of some of Portland’s most experienced improv performers and teachers. The troupe formed at the Brody Theater in 2003, and they were featured artists at the 2017 and 2019 Stumptown Improv Festivals. Broad Selection shares true personal stories that inspire improvised tales that are fun, witty, and often quite moving.
